Before You Add AI, Fix the Workflow: The Efficiency Gap Holding SMEs Back

Before You Add AI, Fix the Workflow: The Efficiency Gap Holding SMEs Back. Many businesses are adding AI tools on top of slow, manual, and disconnected operations. The result is not transformation it is digital clutter. The real opportunity is not simply using AI. It is redesigning the way work moves through the business. From admin and customer service to reporting, sales follow-up, operations and decision-making, technology only creates value when it removes friction. This panel explores how SMEs can identify the right processes to improve first, avoid unnecessary software spend, and build practical technology systems that genuinely improve efficiency.

About Michael

Michael Osborne is the Founder and Principal Accessibility Consultant at Accessible Me.

With a background spanning digital learning, product development and accessibility consultancy, Michael helps organisations make technology, content and digital experiences easier for more people to use.

He works with business leaders and teams to move accessibility earlier in the decision-making process, rather than treating it as something to fix after a product, system or service has already been built.

Michael’s expertise includes digital accessibility, cognitive accessibility, inclusive learning and international accessibility standards. Increasingly, his work also explores the relationship between accessibility, artificial intelligence and human-centred technology: how organisations can use innovation to remove friction without unintentionally creating new barriers.

Through Accessible Me, Michael has worked with global brands, financial institutions and management consultancies, helping teams turn complex accessibility requirements into practical action.

He is a regular speaker, facilitator and educator who is known for making complex subjects understandable, relevant and useful. His focus is not simply on whether technology is technically accessible, but whether people can understand it, use it and achieve what they came to do.
