Sharmeli has a career spanning over 25 years with multinational companies across industry sectors. Currently, she is a board member at General Electric Company Ltd heading up the GEC Space Programme, GEC Consulting division and GEC Outward Investment portfolio. As an Advisory Board member of the UKSA Space Investment Forum (SIF) held in London (May 2023), she was instrumental in shaping the inaugural event propelling the UK Space economy. The inaugural event was followed by two UK Space Agency SIF events in Edinburgh and Leeds earlier this year, where Sharmeli represented the lead sponsor GEC.

In recent years, Sharmeli has played an active role with the UN World Space Week initiatives, London Tech Week space stream and IoD Entrepreneur group events. In addition, she is a member of the Institute of Directors and Vice-Chair of the IoD Entrepreneur SIG. Her previous roles included Associate Director at EY. She oversaw the Innovation & Digital Programme as the Digital Architect for Tax Africa.

Prior to joining EY, she ran her own consulting company providing strategy,markeing, and Project Management Office (PMO) services. Sharmeli has gained experience and contributed at corporates that include IBM, Siemens, T-Systems, Dimension Data, Wipro, Sasol, Standard Bank and Arivia.kom. Sharmeli was part of the top 100 leaders at T-Systems. The Integration programme won project team excellence of the year in 2010. The eXcellence programme at Sasol was nominated for the night of the stars award where she managed 4 multinational companies to deliver at the Sasol sites. She was part of the management committee at Wipro Technologies and a trustee on the Wipro SA Broad Based Ownership Scheme Trust. She holds an MBA from Edinburgh Business School (Herriot Watt) and a Bachelor of Commerce with Honours in Business Management.
